Key Facts + 2023 Impact Numbers

Over 40 years ago, a small and mighty group of community activists founded New York Asian Women’s Center (later renamed to Womankind), the first organization for Asian women and by Asian women during a time when nothing of its kind existed on the East Coast. Today, Womankind remains culturally-rooted, using the multidimensionality of our Asian heritage to work alongside all survivors of gender-based violence on their pathways to healing and to advocate for policy changes aligned with our communities’ unique experiences and needs.

  1. Womankind serves over 2,000 survivors of gender-based violence (domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, and other forms) across the lifespan each year and provides over 27,000 units of service.

  2. Womankind serves survivors of gender-based violence across genders, ages, ethnicities and races, immigration histories, and beyond. Our community of survivors mostly identify as Asian immigrants. Many do not speak English fluently or have permanent immigration status.

  3. Womankind’s 24/7 free and confidential helpline responded to 3,737 inquiries via call, text, and chat in 18+ Asian languages, Spanish, and English. Survivors can also receive help by visiting our community offices located in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

  4. Our robust Community Education & Outreach program reaches 8,101 individuals each year through partnership meetings, events, trainings, and more. Our goal is to raise compassion and awareness of available resources like Womankind for survivors in our communities.

  5. Womankind operates 2 emergency residences (shelters), Rose House and Peace House, for survivors and their children. We provided a safe, language-accessible, and culturally sensitive housing to 101 survivors last year.

Womankind is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. Our tax ID is 13-3286250.
